GINO FRACAS MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
Monday, August, 23, 2010
Essex Golf and Country Club

The Lancer Football program at the University of Windsor is pleased to announce the unveiling of the first annual Gino Fracas Memorial Golf Tournament scheduled for this August.

Formerly known as the Touchdown Club’s Lancer Football Golf Classic, this year’s tournament is set for Monday, August 23rd at the renowned Essex Golf & Country Club in LaSalle, Ontario.

The newly renamed golf outing will be dedicated to honour the legacy of legendary Lancer Football head coach Gino Fracas, who passed away last fall.

"It is a fitting tribute that our annual Lancer Football Golf outing will now be named in Coach Fracas’ honour,” commented Head Coach Mike Morencie. “Gino meant so much to our program and to our players and alumni and this will be another opportunity for us to recognize his many contributions to Lancer Football.”

All of the proceeds generated from this golf outing go directly back to support the Lancer Football Program.
The event is a great opportunity for alumni, friends and family to get together each summer for a fun day of golf and fun.

If you are interested in more information or would like to enter a foursome into this year’s tournament, please contact Lancer Football Marketing Coordinator Brian Jones at: (519) 253-3000 ext. 4275.

The tournament also offers a wide variety of partnership opportunities for those people looking to get involved and support the program. They include event sponsorships, hole sponsors, flag sponsors and raffle prize contributions.

Lancer Football @ 40 Celebration
In the fall of 2008, the Touchdown Club, in partnership with the Department of Athletics at the University of Windsor celebrated forty years of football tradition during the 40th anniversary of Lancer Football weekend.

While football dates back to the 1920's at Assumption College, the Department of Athletics introduced Lancer Football in the fall of 1968 under the leadership of legendary Head Coach Gino Fracas.

To honour the success and tradition of the past forty years of Lancer Football, the Lancers had an exciting weekend of activities to compliment Alumni Weekend at the university. The football program hosted a Touchdown Club Reception on the Friday night at the Radisson Riverfront Club where they honoured the All-Time Lancer Football team. Over 200 football alumni and friends of the program attended the event, including our three Hec Crighton Award recipients, Andy Parici (1972), Scott Mallender (1979) and Daryl Stephenson (2006).

On Saturday, prior to the big game, the Lancers hosted a tribute event for legendary Head Coach Gino Fracas. At the event, the team unveiled the Gino Fracas Wall of Honour, a tribute mural recognizing some of the greatest Lancer Football players ever to wear the blue and gold.

Following the Lancer Football game against Guelph on the Saturday night, the weekend concluded on Sunday when the 1969 Lancer Football CCIFC Championship team was inducted into the University of Windsor Alumni Sports Hall of Fame. Also entering the Hall of Fame on that day was Jim Lynn, a 1978 All-Canadian and four-time OUAA All-Star.
