The Lancers men's soccer team swept their opening weekend at home with a pair of shutout victories over the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks and received all the goal support they would need from forward Leighton Speechely-Price (Lymington, England).
On Friday evening, Speechely-Price, a third-year Business student-athlete, opened the scoring in the 12th minute against the Waterloo Warriors and the Lancers never looked back. Â Speechely-Price would add two more goals late in the 44th and 55th minutes to complete the hat trick as Windsor defeated Waterloo 6-0.
On Saturday, the 6'5" 195 lbs forward once again opened the scoring in the 42nd minute against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Â The Lancers would add another in the second half, defeating the Golden Hawks 2-0, with Speechely-Price scoring the game winning goal in both games.
Through six games this season, Speechely-Price leads OUA and CIS with seven goals. Â The Lancers have opened the season with a 4-1-1 record and find themselves keeping pace with the defending CIS champion York Lions atop the OUA West division.
Windsor welcomes the Algoma Thunderbirds to Alumni Field for a weekend doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday. Â Both games are scheduled to kickoff at 3:15pm.
