Anniversary Spotlight: 1975 Men's Football

This fall, the University of Windsor is celebrating its 50th anniversary, culminating with a celebration weekend from September 19 to 22.  Over the course of this summer, the Windsor Lancers are proud to highlight the most memorable intercollegiate teams in school history leading up to the university's 50th birthday.  Many of these Blue and Gold squads have been honoured by the Alumni Sports Hall of Fame with the Team Achievement Award, while a number of their athletes and coaches are Hall of Fame Inductees.

The Windsor Lancers made a historic splash in OUAA men's football during the 1975 fall season.

Windsor's stingy defence in the 1975 season has them ranking amongst the top defensive squads in conference history, as the men allowed just 34 points over seven games. That is a miniscule average of 4.9 points allowed per game.

After topping off an undefeated regular season by defeating the rival University of Western in their final conference match, the Lancers overthrew the defending champion Mustangs in the OUAA semifinals one week later, setting up a match with Laurier in the West Division finals.

Another dominant performance from the Lancers gave them a share of the Yates Cup, as they set an OUAA record with seven passing touchdowns en route to a 65-8 triumph.

Nine players from the team were selected to the OUAA West Division All-Star Team and nine members were voted to the 40th Anniversary all-time Lancer team.  Six individuals (four players and two coaches) would later be inducted into the Alumni Sports Hall of Fame.
