Oliver, Phillip honoured with OUA major awards

The Windsor Lancers are proud to announce that two members of the Lancer men's basketball team have captured OUA major awards, as announced by Ontario University Athletics Friday morning at the Wilson Cup major awards breakfast.

Lancer head coach Chris Oliver has been named the OUA west division coach of the year, while first team all-star Lien Phillip was named the west division player of the year.

Coach Oliver led the Lancers to an impressive 16-5 record and first place in the OUA west division. The Lancers were the only team in the west with a winning record against OUA east opponents this year and they held on to first place in their conference for the entire season.

Nationally ranked all year, Oliver's CIS No .6 ranked squad was one of the top offensive teams in the nation, scoring 82 points per game. This is Oliver's third OUA coach of the year honour after previously winning the award in both 2007 and 2008.

Phillip, a fourth-year power forward, had another terrific season for the Lancers as he established himself as the premier big man in the province. He averaged 14.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game in helping Windsor finish in first place in the OUA west with a 16-5 record and the No. 6 ranking in the CIS. A dominant force on the glass, Phillip finished first in the OUA and second in the nation in rebounding this season.
