Men's Basketball set to host South Alabama in OUA/NCAA Tip-Off Classic

The Windsor Lancers Men's Basketball team will host the University of South Alabama in August as part of their annual OUA/NCAA Tip-Off Classic event.

Head Coach Chris Oliver's Windsor squad will host South Alabama for a pair of games on August 13 and 16 at the St. Denis Centre. Both games will tip-off at 7:00pm. Tickets will be available at the door at a cost of $5.

The NCAA allows its member institutions to go on foreign exhibition tours every four years and this will be the 8th consecutive year Coach Oliver's teams have hosted NCAA Division 1 teams in August.

“Scheduling these games allows us an early opportunity to come together as a team and compete against some top level competition,” said Oliver.

It will be an early look for Lancer fans at the 2012-13 team that returns five starters from last season. A number of new faces including transfers Michael Petrella (Guelph University) and Nana Ntim (George Brown College), along with freshmen Anthony Limbombe (St Anne's, Windsor ON) and Ismar Seferagic (St Patrick's, Chicago, IL) will all make their debuts during these August games.

“This is a great opportunity for our new staff and team to develop chemistry prior to the season,” said Oliver, whose teams have hosted Kentucky, Ohio State and Virginia Tech in the past.  “Most of our players have been here all summer working, training and going to school. These games will allow us to be in a good place heading into the fall. It is a reward for all their hard work in the summer in that they get to compete against an NCAA D1 team in our gym.”

On their trip, South Alabama will play three exhibition games. Per NCAA rules, they will be allowed 10 additional practices in preparation for the trip. The Jaguars will have the majority of its roster eligible for travel as all returners, incoming freshmen, junior college transfers and players, who sat out last season, are allowed to partake in the foreign tour.

South Alabama has eight players returning from last season's 17-12 squad. The team's top four scorers, top two rebounders and top three shot blockers will be in uniform next year, including First Team All-Sun Belt performer Augustine Rubit, who paced the Jaguars with 15.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest.
