Lancer track & field head coach
Dennis Fairall is pleased to announce the commitment of two standout recruits from the local Windsor area.
Corey Bellemore of Riverside Secondary School and Daniel Piticariu of Vincent Massey High School will join the Lancer track & field and cross country teams for the 2012-13 season.
Bellemore has an outstanding background in track & field and cross country and is expected to represent the Windsor Lancers in both sports next season.
As a cross country athlete, Bellemore was selected to represent Canada at the North American Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Championships this past spring in Trinidad. The Riverside student placed twelfth at the NACAC competition.
A five-time WECSSAA gold medalist in track & field and cross country, he represented Canada at the International Children's Games in Athens, Greece where he captured the bronze medal in the 1500 metres.
Bellemore was also named the prestigious Royal Arcanum Award Recipient in 2011.
“Windsor has always been my number one option when deciding where to complete my post secondary education,” said Bellemore. “With the solid coaching staff, team and excellent academic programs, I am really excited to study and train at the University of Windsor.”
Piticariu has been a star at Massey over the past five seasons, where he captured eleven WECSSAA medals in track & field and cross country, six gold medals at the SWOSSA championships, and six medals at OFSAA.
Also a key member of three national cross country team championships, Piticariu has a strong understanding of what it takes to be a team member. This is a key element of Piticariu that intrigues Coach Fairall. “There is no doubt that the University of Windsor has a strong team concept, and Dan's background as a member of provincial and national championships teams brings an additional element to the Windsor Lancers,” commented Fairall.
“We are very excited that Dan has selected the University of Windsor to further his academic and athletic careers.”
