The Windsor Lancers Women's Basketball team will return to Ottawa this weekend for the CIS Regionals where they will look to punch their ticket back to Nationals and a trip to Calgary the following week.
The defending CIS National champions will have to play their way into the CIS national championship tournament after falling to the Ottawa Gee Gees last weekend in the OUA Championship gold medal game.
“It just seemed Ottawa was on a mission,” Lancers head coach Chantal Vallee said. “That was their goal all year and they rallied the team around that goal.” Windsor previously beat Ottawa in both the 2010 and 2009 OUA final.
The Lancers can still advance to the CIS championships in Calgary. Windsor will return to Ottawa on Friday to play Cape Breton University in the East Regional semifinal.
Ottawa is also in that bracket and should the two meet in the final, both will automatically advance to nationals and the game will be played for seeding. If Ottawa doesn't reach the final, Windsor must win the regional final.
“We've worked hard all year,” said point guard Miah Langlois. “It's a long road, but we have to think of the next step. It's not what we wanted to do, but if we want to get back to nationals, this is what we have to do."
