Lancers add six additional players to 2012 recruiting class

Lancer Football head coach Joe D'Amore is pleased to announce the addition of six more recruits to the 2012 football recruiting class.

Highlighting the pack is Rhys Mahler, a six-foot one linebacker from Superior Heights High School in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Mahler is a blue chip prospect and considered one of the top linebackers in Ontario.

“We are very excited to add a player of Rhys' calibre to the Lancer program,” said D'Amore. “He is a wide range of skills and I believe will compete immediately for playing time.”

Also joining the Lancers from Superior Heights is quarterback Casey Wright. Wright was the top rated passer in the OVFL with the Sault Ste. Marie Sabercats in 2011, and was named to the all-star team in both the OVFL and his high school conference. “Though Casey isn't the typical size for a quarterback, his numbers and accolades speak for themselves,” commented D'Amore.

Mahler and Wright's Sabercat teammates, twin brothers Brock and Jordan Hoover, will also be joining the Blue & Gold in the fall.

Brock is a six-foot one running back, while Jordan is on the defensive side of the ball as a six-foot one defensive back.

“Brock is one of the top running backs out of the Sault area,” D'Amore said. “He is a physical player who could also play slot at this level.”

D'Amore continues about Jordan. “He is one of the premier defensive backs in Ontario. He was the 2011 High school MVP for the Sault area and will be a great free safety at the next level, and we expect Jordan to challenge for some playing time early in his career.”

Tyson Leeb, a Brantford, Ontario native, will join the Lancers from Assumption Collegiate as a defensive back. “Tyson is a physical player who can play either side of the ball. We feel in a year or two he can step in and compete for the Sam Linebacker position.”

An outstanding athlete from Sarnia Northern High School, Jon Ravenhorst will dawn the Blue & Gold in the fall at wide receiver. “He was the starting QB for Sarnia who went to the Western Bowl this year,” said D'Amore. “We feel Jon will be a slot WR at the next level, and his speed and athleticism will allow him to compete early for some playing time.”
