In a very entertaining game on Wednesday night, the Windsor Lancers Men's Basketball team fell to the Virginia Tech Hokies 73-61 at the St. Denis Centre.
The Lancers were led by third year guard
Enrico Diloreto who delighted the Windsor fans with an impressive 30-point performance against the Hokies. Virginia Tech had no answer for Diloreto who finished 12 of 16 from the field including 6 of 8 from long range.
On Wednesday night, after a slow start, Windsor jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the opening eight minutes of the game. Diloreto connected on a trio of three-pointers early on to give the home team the lead.
The Hokies would respond with a 14-0 run of their own to take a 23-17 lead with five minutes remaining. Virginia Tech's size inside was a major factor as they controlled the low post and glass.
The Lancers battled back to cut the Hokies lead to 27-25 at the break. Rookie Junior Osuntola made an impact late in the half with a pair of blocks to spark the Lancer offensive attack.
In the second half, the Hokies began to take over as their superior size in the post began to wear down the Lancers. The visitors from Blacksburg, Virginia increased their lead to 59-45 midway through the half.
However, Windsor would not go down without a fight as the guard tandem of Diloreto and
Josh Collins continued to connect from outside to keep them within range. The Lancers cut the lead to 8 late in the game before the Hokies secured the 73-61 win.
Diloreto led all scorers with 30 points while
Josh Collins added 11 points, 9 assists and 4 steals.
Erik Green and Dorian Finney-Smith paced the Hokies attack with 15 points each while Cadarian Raines added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
