Off the ice, Derek is also an outstanding student having earned the Roger Neilson Memorial Award as the top academic player in the Ontario Hockey League. It's the second straight year he has won the prestigious award.

He is currently a chemistry major at the University of Windsor who carries an A average.

"We're very proud of Derek, and to see him win the Roger Neilson Memorial Award for the second consecutive year is truly amazing," commented Spitfires Vice-President and General Manager Warren Rychel. "Derek works extremely hard on and off the ice and his dedication to excellence will serve him well in his future endeavours.”

Coach Hamlin is excited to be adding another quality student-athlete to his program.

“We are thrilled that Derek has committed to wear the blue and gold next season,” commented Hamlin. “He brings a winning attitude to our team and he is also an outstanding student in the classroom. He will be a terrific representation of our program going forward.”

Derek is also excited to join the Lancer Hockey program in the fall.

“I'm really looking forward to moving ahead with both my academic studies and my hockey career at the University of Windsor,” commented Lanoue. “I felt this was the right fit for me and I'm excited for the new experience next year.”

MacIntyre, a 5'11” defenseman is set to join the Lancers after two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfires and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

This past season, Mike played in 58 games with the Spitfires and collected six goals and 6 assists for 12 points.

“Mike is another talented local player who will bring speed and skill to our back end,” added Hamlin. “He is another example of our commitment to find the top local players available and to bring them into the fold here at the University of Windsor.”
