Lancers overwhelm Gee Gees 50-33 in OUA quarter-finals in Ottawa

Windsor to face Western Mustangs in OUA Semi-Finals next Saturday

Jordan Brescacin was spectacular against Ottawa as he caught 9 passes for 198 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Box Score The Windsor Lancers Football team continued their impressive play this season with a dominating 50-33 win over the Ottawa Gee Gees in OUA quarter-final action on Saturday afternoon at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa.  

With the victory, the Lancers will now travel to London next weekend to battle the Western Mustangs in OUA Semi-Final action.
 
Windsor used a balanced offensive attack to win their first playoff game since 2003 in overwhelming fashion in Ottawa.
 
Fourth year receiver Jordan Brescacin opened the scoring two minutes into the game with a 24 yard touchdown reception from QB Austin Kennedy. Rookie kicker Sebastien Rimbert would then add a 15 yard field goal to give Windsor a 10-0 edge.
 
The Lancers would add another score late in the quarter after an Ottawa field goal, as Kennedy jumped into the end zone on a one yard run to give Windsor a 17-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Windsor kept the momentum going in the second quarter with two more touchdowns. Evan Pszczonak scored his first of the post season with a 35 yard reception from Kennedy five minutes into the half.

Kennedy would then strike again with a 5 yard pass to Dylan Whitfield for his first of the playoffs.
 
However, with less than a minute remaining in the opening half, Ottawa's Aaron Colbon would move his team down the field and complete a four yard pass to Bogdan Raic to get the Gee Gees on the board.
 
Dan Cerino would close out the scoring in the first half with a 40 yard field goal to give Windsor a commanding 34-10 lead at the break.
 
Ottawa would jump out of the gates quickly in the third quarter as tried to get back in the game. The Gee Gees put together a long drive down the field which culminated with a 12 yard pass to Justene Edwards to bring the score to 34-17.

The Lancers answer right away on their next drive as Brescacin scored his second of the game on a 31 yard reception from Kennedy, making the score 41-17.
 
The Gee Gees kicked a field goal to make it 41-20 with 9:30 minutes remaining in the third.
 
Austin Kennedy would then continue his outstanding play as he put together another scoring drive to receiver Cory Fernandes to give Windsor a commanding 50-20 lead at the end of the third.
 
Ottawa would add a couple of late scores in the fourth quarter with the game out of reach as the Lancers secured the 50-33 playoff win.
 
For the Lancers, quarterback Austin Kennedy was sensational at the helm going 25-for-34 for 429 passing yards and 5 touchdowns. He also rushed for 86 yards and another touchdown. 

Receiver Jordan Brescacin was also remarkable on the field  on Saturday as he caught 9 passes for 198 passing yards and two touchdowns.
 
Cory Fernanades also hauled in 8 catches for 104 yards and a touchdown. Shomari Grant carried the ball 14 times for 65 yards.

Defensively, the trio of Seamus Postuma, Matt McGarva and Akeem Whonder were terrific for Windsor. Postuma had 7.5 tackles,a forced fumble and 3 sacks on the day, while McGarva added 8 tackles and Whonder finished with 8 tackles and 2 sacks.

Windsor will travel to London to face Western next Saturday in the OUA semi-finals. Stay tuned to www.goLancers.ca for more playoff information as it comes available.
