The No. 2 Lancer men's cross country team captured a silver medal at the OUA Cross Country championships, while the Lancer women upset the No. 9 ranked Queen's Gaels to finish fourth overall Saturday at Mooney Bay Park in Ottawa.
The Lancer women narrowly edged Queen's by four points, and now qualify as a team for the CIS national championships in Quebec City on November 12th.
In a very exciting men's race, the second ranked Lancers and the top ranked Guelph Gryphons ran a tight front pack over the entire 10km course.
Windsor finished with four runners in the top ten, and all five scorers were named OUA all-stars, to take home the silver medal.
Lancer standout
Matt Walters took home an individual bronze medal and was named a first team all-star with a third place finish, completing the course in a time of 30:57.1.
Anthony Berkis also had a strong race placing fifth overall in 31:14.1, while
Andrew Aguanno placed 8th at 31:21.6. Rounding out the top ten was
Paul Janikowski at 31:50.8, and Nick Falk placed 14th in a time of 32:09.6.
On the women's side,
Jen Corrick was named an OUA second team all-star after a 12th place finish overall in a time of 18:29.6.
Rookie sensation
Meaghan Marton finished 23rd overall in a time of 18:56.12 and
Samantha Kellam finished 27th at 19:00.5.
Rounding out the Lancer scorers were
Gabrielle Malette (19:31.7), and
Kelly Laing (20:02.2).
The Lancers will now break from competition and prepare for the CIS National Championships on November 12th in Quebec City, Quebec.
