Box Score Coming off a shut-out win on Saturday, the No. 9 Windsor Lancers faced the seventh place York Lions on Sunday afternoon at South Windsor Arena.
The Lions came into the game fresh off a win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday in London, and kept the momentum going as they defeated the Lancers 3-2 in overtime.
Both teams came out strong with hard for-checking and plenty of shots, but it was the Lancers who stuck first. Kristen Bortolotti scored an unassisted goal on York goaltender Sydney McMurter just over the midway point of the period to give Windsor a one goal lead.
The Lions retaliated one minute later as Chloe Milano got the puck past Windsor's
Jamie Tessier to knot the game at one.
In a penalty filled second period, York took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal by Jennifer Petkovics for the periods only goal.
The Lancers came out flying in the third, putting immense pressure on the York defence. McMurter made some exceptional saves to keep the Lions in the game.
Coming off a face-off in the York end with one minute left on the clock,
Manon Davis came around the circle in front of the net, firing a rocket into McMurter's five hole to tie the game and send it into extra minutes.
In the four-on-four overtime, an unlucky tip off a point shot left Tessier blinded with no opportunity to make the save as the Lions took the 3-2 win.
Tessier made 23 saves for the Lancers, while McMurter had 35 in net for the Lions.
Windsor will take to the ice again next Saturday February 5th when they travel to Waterloo to face the Warriors at 2:00pm.
