Lowe, Bishop earn bronze medals at 2010 Canadian Senior Track Championships

Adjetey-Nelson captures first ever Canadian Decathlon title and qualifies for Commonwealth Games

Jaideene Lowe captured a bronze medal in the women's triple jump at the 2010 Canadian Senior Track and Field Championships in Toronto this past weekend.
Lancer Track and Field stars Jaideene Lowe and Melissa Bishop captured bronze medals at the 2010 Canadian Senior Track and Field Championships in Toronto this past weekend.

Lowe, a native of Toronto, Ontario, jumped 12.26 metres to capture her first ever medal at the Canadian Senior Championships. She is coming off a tremendous 2009-10 indoor season where she claimed her first CIS Women's Triple Jump title en route to helping her team capture the national championship.

Bishop also had a strong showing at nationals this past weekend as she raced to a bronze medal in the Women's 800m in a time of 2:04.12. The Eganville, Ontario native also had a stellar 2009-10 indoor season as she dominated the CIS Championships and earned the Banner Shield award as the University of Windsor Female Athlete of the Year.

The Lancers also had two former standouts earn medals in Toronto. High jumper Derek Watkins captured a silver medal in the men's event with a leap of 2.16 metres.

Jamie Adjetey-Nelson kicked-off the competition by capturing his first ever Canadian Senior Decathlon Championship with a point total of 7,780 to win gold.

Having already met the Olympic "A" standard of 8,000 points earlier this summer, Adjetey-Nelson was named to Canada's Commonwealth Games team earlier today.

Athletics Canada announced a team of 40 athletes which will compete at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. Competition starts on October 6th and will wrap up on the 12th.

"At the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, we expect all athletes to perform at their highest level for this year," commented Head Coach Alex Gardiner. "We are using the Commonwealth Games as an important benchmark for those athletes pursuing selection for the London Olympic Games. Results in Delhi will have a direct bearing on who we provide additional support for in the next two years leading to 2012."
