Ryan Hughes is the new Head Coach of the Lancer Golf program at the University of Windsor and he is excited to be leading the team forward in 2010.

A native of Oshawa Ontario, Coach Hughes is currently making preparations for the upcoming fall season for the Lancer Golf team.

"We are really excited to get golf program back in action this fall," commented Hughes. "It's my goal to bring in some outstanding players to be part of our team and we'll be working hard to get ready for the provincial championships later this year."

Currently in his ninth season as the Director of Golf at Beach Grove Golf & Country Club, Ryan manages all aspects the golf operation for the private club. This includes creating and developing player programs for the members and community outreach programs, such as the Volunteer Adopt a Junior Program.

Also an outstanding collegiate player, his college career spanned seven years at Durham College, including four as a player and three years as a coach. 

During his time at Durham College, he collected an incredible six Provincial gold medals as a player, including two team golds and four consecutive individual titles – a record that still stands today. As a coach, he also led his Durham squad to two team gold medals in three seasons. 

To this day, Ryan remains one of the most decorated Ontario College Athletic Association athletes of all-time. He was inducted into the Durham College Hall of Fame, the Ontario College Athletic Association Hall of Fame and also the city of Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame.

Coach Hughes prides himself on being a motivator and mentor he is excited about the future growth and development of the Lancer Golf program moving forward.

"We want to bring in the best student-athletes from our area and from across the province," added Hughes. "It's my goal to make this a destination of choice for the best junior golfers in our region."

For the upcoming varsity season, he expects to announce try-out dates and information in the coming weeks. Coach Hughes is also working on putting together a strong fall tournament schedule which he also anticipates announcing later in August.
