Vallée, Head Coach of the Lancer Women's Basketball program is pleased to announce the commitment of two top recruits, Jocelyn La Rocque and Amber Irvine for the 2010-11 season.
The pair will join the powerhouse two-time defending OUA provincial champions and last year's CIS national silver medal Lancer team that is likely to open as the pre-season #1 team in the nation in the fall.
La Rocque, a Windsor native and local star will join the Lancers after a standout high school career at St. Anne's HS in Tecumseh. The skilled and gritty point guard helped lead her team to an OFSAA AAAA gold medal in 2007.
Considered to be one of the top local players in the city, La Rocque captured a gold medal at the U17 national championships in 2008 with the Ontario provincial team. She also earned a U17 bronze medal at the 2009 Canada Games and an OBA provincial silver medal that same year.
“We're thrilled that another top local student-athlete will be joining our Lancer program in the fall,” commented Vallée. “I have followed Jocelyn throughout her high school and club career and I believe she is capable of making a major impact with our team in the CIS next season.”
La Rocque was also an honour roll student throughout her four years of high school and will be studying Human Kinetics in the fall at the University of Windsor.
"I'm excited to be joining Coach Vallée at the University of Windsor next year," said La Rocque. "They have built a great women's basketball program and I'm looking forward to playing in front of my family and friends and helping the team try and win a CIS National Championship next season."
Irvine, a 5'10” native of East Elgin, Ontario, was the team captain of her East Elgin High School team and was the first ever player in her region to be named conference player of the year for two straight years.
The first team conference all-star captured the Fran Wigston Award as the best female graduating basketball player in TVRAA and helped lead her team to both the TVRAA and WOSSAA Championships.
Coach Valleé says Irvine is a versatile guard who can shoot and defend extremely well as evidenced by the fact that she helped lead her Ingersoll OBA team to a U19 bronze medal in 2009.
“Amber is another talented recruit that we believe has the ability to develop into a solid player in the OUA,” added Valleé. “Her size and skill at the guard position will be important assets for our team and we are happy to have her be part of the Lancer family.”
The addition of La Rocque and Irvine adds more excitement to Valleé's Lancer squad which returns ten players from their OUA championship and CIS national silver medal squad that finished last season with an impressive 21-1 record.
